Assessment & Screeners
Assessments and Screeners
What is a Speech Pathology Assessment?
A speech pathology assessment is a structured process that helps us understand how a person communicates. This may include evaluating:
- Speech sounds and clarity (articulation and phonology)
- Language skills (understanding and using words and sentences)
- Social communication (using language to interact with others)
- Fluency (such as stuttering)
- Voice and vocal quality
- Literacy (reading, writing, spelling)
Assessments may involve standardised tests, informal observations, interviews with parents or teachers, support workers, and play-based tasks, depending on the age and needs of the individual.
What is a Screener?
A speech and language screener is a shorter, informal tool used to flag potential areas of concern. It is not diagnostic but helps determine whether a full assessment is recommended.
Screeners are ideal for:
- Children starting school or preschool
- Parents or teachers with mild concerns
- Tracking development over time
What to Expect
After the screener or assessment, we provide:
- A clear summary of findings
- Recommendations for therapy or next steps
- Support with reports for NDIS, schools, or medical providers (if required)
