NDIS Funding

The NDIS is a funding program established by the federal government to support people diagnosed with a disability or developmental delay. Your child must undergo an assessment to determine eligibility for funding based on the access requirements.

What should I do if I think my child may have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)?

Consider the following criteria:

1. Permanent Impairment: The child has an impairment or condition that is likely to be permanent (i.e., expected to last a lifetime).
2. Reduced Participation: The impairment significantly limits their ability to engage effectively in activities or perform tasks without assistance from others, technology, or assistive equipment.
3. Impact on Participation: The impairment affects the child’s capacity for social and economic participation.
4. Need for Ongoing Support: The child is likely to require lifelong support under the NDIS.

What if my child requires Early Intervention support?

Your child may meet the early intervention criteria if:

• The impairment or condition is expected to be permanent, and there is evidence that early support will be beneficial.
• The necessary supports are best funded through the NDIS rather than another service system.
• The child is under 9 years old and has a developmental delay that significantly reduces their functional capacity in areas such as self-care, receptive and expressive language, cognitive development, or motor development.

The government recognises the significance of early intervention and supports individuals when there is strong evidence that it can enhance functioning or delay decline.
